Chau Taufu - fermented taufu
Chau Taufu or fermented tofu is a delicacies. Not really commercialized and not much people are fond of it. It can be found in Pasar Malam (night market). The best I've tasted was in Taman Connaught every Wednesday night. The above picture show people queuing up for hours to buy the taufu.
Some people find Chau Taufu smells like ammonia, rotten egg, stall drain water as they describe. Amazingly when you eat, it does taste good. The Chau Taufu is taken with cabbage pickles and chili sauce. Texture of the taufu - Crispy in the outside, soft in the inside. Next type of food I would like to try are deep fried insects in Thailand!
